ICON’s U.S. Income Portfolio:
Helping Your Clients Navigate the Current Crisis and Volatile Market Settings

Our U.S. Income portfolio seems to be handling this market downturn very well. The U.S. Income portfolio’s combination of bonds, utilities & dividend oriented equities is very important to us, the secret sauce if you will. We researched different combinations for months and came up with our stated combination to achieve current income, growth in income and capital preservation.
A few years ago I asked a few financial advisors why retiring investors were not embracing Utilities like previous generations. They said retiring investors were using other things for retirement income like, Oil & Gas master limited partnerships, REITs and covered call writing. How those are doing lately? MLPs and REITs have participated in the sharp downside. Covered call writing provides a little bit of downside cushion, but not enough to buffer the recent slide in stock prices. All three of those alternatives are likely hurting investors.
U.S. Income is likely not appropriate for every single investor, but we believe it can be helpful in many cases, especially during periods of market uncertainty. Now might be a great time to review investor goals and risk tolerance levels and review U.S. Income as a possible fit.
